Suriname Originals   ·   SuriFlava

Rooted in Suriname. Made to be shared.

Surinamese flavours deserve a distinctive place in kitchens near and far. Through Suriname Originals, we are building a food business that brings these flavours together in products for home cooks, foodservice businesses and retailers.

Our ambition begins with flavour: developing products that invite people to cook, discover and share a meal.

Many stories. A diverse food culture.

Suriname’s richness begins with its people. Indigenous peoples, Afro-Surinamese and Creole communities, Maroon communities, and communities with Hindustani, Javanese, Chinese, Jewish and Lebanese heritage are all part of its story. Boeroes, people with Portuguese and other backgrounds, and families with mixed roots also contribute to its society.

This is not an exhaustive list. Every community encompasses different traditions, experiences and identities.

Surinamese food reflects that diversity. Dishes and preparation methods have been passed down, adapted and intertwined. We aim to approach this richness thoughtfully, with respect for the people and stories behind the flavours.

The original inhabitants

Indigenous peoples have a distinct place in Suriname’s story. Kari’na, Lokono, Trio (Tiriyo, Tarëno) and Wayana are among the larger peoples named by VIDS. Smaller groups also live in Suriname, including Akurio, Wai-Wai, Katuena/Tunayana, Mawayana, Pireuyana, Sikiiyana, Okomoyana, Alamayana, Maraso, Sirewu, Sakëta and Apalai.

Their languages, traditions and experiences are not interchangeable. Their knowledge, cultures and contemporary lives deserve attention from their own perspectives.

Our Surinamese roots

Suriname is more than one dish, one community or one landscape. It encompasses towns and villages, coastal areas, rivers, savannas and extensive forests.

According to the Government of Suriname, approximately 93% of the country was covered by forest, as reported in 2025.

That diversity inspires us. We want it to inform our products, imagery and stories, with attention to both cultural heritage and Suriname today.

Product knowledge meets entrepreneurship

Suriname Originals brings knowledge of food production and preparation together with hospitality experience, entrepreneurship and brand development.

We consider the whole product: ingredients, recipes, preparation, packaging and use in the kitchen. Our range is currently in development, with each product line being developed step by step.

Meet SuriFlava

SuriFlava is our first product brand. Under this name, we are developing products including ketjap, marinades, sauces and sambals.

Our wider development range also includes coconut oil, concentrated syrups and saoto products. They share our ambition to present Surinamese flavours with a clear identity and practical uses in the kitchen.

The people behind Suriname Originals

Suriname Originals is taking shape through a collaboration that brings together knowledge of food production and preparation, hospitality experience and entrepreneurship. We combine that experience to develop products, build a distinctive brand and reach new customers.

Our approach to product development

We are developing our range step by step. Our approach is to document the ingredients, recipe, preparation and packaging for each product. We then aim to assess its flavour, uses and required product information before offering it to customers.

What guides us

Flavour as our starting point.

Clear and reliable product information.

A distinctive identity that respects cultural heritage.

Thoughtful product development.

Growth guided by the needs of our customers.

Our ambition reaches beyond borders

Rooted in Suriname, we aim to share our flavours with kitchens across neighbouring markets, the Caribbean, Central America and Europe.

We welcome partnerships with foodservice businesses, retailers, importers and distributors to develop a suitable range for each market. Product availability and delivery arrangements will be established for each market.
